Clinical Director
Dr. Sharon Black is the clinical director at BlackBird Behavioral Health and enjoys working with individuals, couples, and families. With 30 years working in mental health, and with diverse individuals across the lifespan in a number of settings, Sharon brings substantial experience to the counseling relationship. Sharon uses all available tools and strategies to help you reach your goals, focusing on your strengths and using them as a platform for growth.
Sharon has quite an extensive resource base and is able to develop
a comprehensive understanding of your world with
empathy, positive regard, and respect for your emotional system.
Since 1996, Sharon has been an active member in the psychological community. In 1998, Sharon founded Wholehealth-a company which developed programs and groups for residents in the inpatient setting and in the geriatric community. The mission of this company was to infuse the environment with positivity and connection, as to help both the residents and the facility staff. Sharon provided counseling, developed programs and presentations and led a dynamic team of psychologists, social workers, and counselors.
In 2005, Sharon continued her post-graduate experience in Northern New South Wales, Australia. There, she co-founded The Wholehealth Centre, a wellness center providing counseling and rehabilitation, both psychological and physical. Also, Sharon led workshops and trainings for psychologists and physicians on best practice with the Medicare system.
In 2008, Sharon returned to the states and has provided therapy services for individuals, couples, and families in the Chicagoland area. Sharon's interpersonal approach to psychotherapy provides a positive and safe atmosphere where issues may be explored and problems may be solved. Her approach is client-centered and interpersonal, yet solution focused and evidenced based. Sharon is a very empathic therapist and the safe, confidential, and non-judgmental atmosphere that she provides will make it easier for you to explore your world.

​Currently, Sharon has a thriving and well loved private practice. She is writing, speaking, and presenting on the topic of the emotional body, trauma informed care, and body image. Sharon is thrilled to now offer group psychotherapy to help women move from body image to body bestie to help improve the relationships women have with the somatic self.
